Map-making with RPGmaker VX Ace

I posted before about making games with RPGMaker a few years back, and recently one of my quarantine activities is going back to the old hobbies and interests I’ve picked up. I spent one weekend playing an entire RPG game, all while observing how the game made use of the game making engine. In my breaks between playing games, I made a few maps as an exercise, and for fun!

This gallery consists of two main locations: a castle and an academy. I created huge hallways and a dining hall for the castle. I also created a library, a study hall, a workshop, and some dormitory apartments.

Although I have a whole storyline and plot outlined for a horror RPG game, the maps I made were entirely separate from that thought. I wanted to practice and create a visual according to my imagination, but I have come to some limitations with the default map sprites that the game has built-in. There are a wide variety of tilesets available online, both free and paid at a premium, that I have yet to explore. I also found ways to spice up the plain ol’ default tilesets by rotating them, grouping them, and by coloring them. There’s so many possibilities to unlock with this software.

However, I’m putting this project on hold since I have other projects that I am prioritizing at the moment. Don’t worry, I will still continue working on this even if it is not my main project for a while.

It will be fun, I promise! So stay tuned. :)
