Account Executive (June 2020 - Present)

My first full-time job! I onboarded remotely and everybody is working from home due to the CoVID-19 era, but I’m able to learn as much as I could from my supportive team. As I’ve recently started, I’m assisting Sales directors and account managers with key customer accounts’ support needs and inquiries on our company’s products. I get to work with my colleagues especially those in Canada, Japan, and Taiwan, which is really cool! Although I’m #WFH, I’m still feeling connected with my global network. In FY 2021, I won an award for attaining 197% of my quota! Although I was put on a quota plan for only half a year, I was able to be the Top 1 quota overachiever in our global sales team. All with the great support and guidance from my awesome teammates across different departments.

I am Miss Worldwide. :)

Sales Engineer Intern (Summer 2019)

I worked in the sales teams for the Commercial Lasers and 3D sensing departments. I was learning about the various industries that these departments contribute towards and studied the markets, while looking for prospective customers. I even went trade shows, first with my mentor, and second all by myself! I researched a bunch of companies and made a list to take notes, then went on a cold-calling spree by myself, with another mentor guiding me. I got to see how everybody’s personality translates to how they work, which is so unique to each individual.

I shifted gears from an engineering-focused perspective to a more whole-rounded outlook, thanks to the increase in my social awareness and the business knowledge!

R&D ME Intern (Sep 2018 - Mar 2019)

My previous summer internship was extended into a remote internship as I continued my studies in NYC! It was a guinea pig experiment as a work from home situation hasn’t been solidified for mechanical engineers, especially in my case for those looking for hands-on experience. I learned about Agile Product Lifecycle Management and Solidworks Product Data Management, which I had training for before leaving for NYC.

It’s crazy to think that a few years later, everybody WILL have to work remotely. It was a learning process and now I can fully grasp the importance of communication. I thought I was a good communicator, but it turns out there are more I could do, and I’ve applied that to my future opportunities!

ME and Advanced Research Intern (Summer 2018)

My first major-related internship! This is that ONE opportunity that opened a whole lot of doors for me. It was a super fun experience as the company showed me how I can voice out my opinions and get things done even as an intern. My mentor was really great and gave me projects that I find exciting (as it was apparently, extremely, confidential LOL). I mean, hey, they let me make the very first rough drafts of a prototype!

My mentor went on a paternal leave for a chunk of my summer and I was able to jump from one thing to another while finishing my summer project too.

One time I found a 3D printer lying in one unoccupied cube and I fiddled with it, fixed it, and set it up. My group let me set it up in this one empty room where we were also setting up a tiny machine shop. My group was very supportive and even bought 2 more 3D printers to play with!

Wearable Technology Researcher (2018)

Check out the prototype I brainstormed with a few girl groupmates on a research program at NYU. The gloves are one of the few projects I worked on in the wearable technology research program. I learned how to sew and integrate circuitry into clothing, and in order to do that, I learned about electric circuits, soldering, 3D printing. In the process I encountered many materials common to these applications, ensuring that the wearer’s safety and comfortability are prioritized along with functionality.

It’s like fashion, but make it zappy!

Sustainability Intern (Feb-Apr 2018)

I joined an internship program at NYC Parks and Recreation in Randall’s Island where I learned about the up and coming projects that the think tank worked on. Among these ideas that were coming into fruition is the Greenroof projects that would enable a highly urban city such as NYC to be sustainable. And that is so cool!

Volunteer - Intern (Sep 2015 - May 2016)

I initially joined EarthTeam as a volunteer because I heard about the internship program. I couldn’t join as an intern but I still wanted to join to partake in the activities that they will do in the program. So I onboarded as a volunteer, participated in the intern program, and at the very last day of the program, was awarded the intern stipend much like everybody else. It felt like graduation day!

Homework Coach (Oct 2013 - Jan 2016)

I was coming in every Wednesday to be a homework coach when I was in high school. I fondly recall that one time when there was a child who shyly asked me in broken English to teach him how to read. Note that I had only moved to the US for about 2 to 3 years, and there I found myself being looked up to by this child who believed in my immigrant self that I can teach him how to read English.

I spent the entire day doing my best to teach him from the very beginning. We wrote the alphabet, sounded out the letters, and did our best to connect them. The child’s parent was very thankful for me after the session. As I was heading home, I realized that the child’s parent isn’t able to teach him due to the language barrier… I am very grateful that I was part of that program to provide a safe learning environment for children whose immigrant parents cannot teach them. I still think about it every now and then!

I grew a lot from my experiences there. The books I’ve read and the kids I helped were one of the things I had often thought about when I would ride my bike around in the small island of Alameda.

International Filipino Association

I was cast as a tita (auntie), fresh from the Philippines who moved to the US with a very traditional way of thinking. She had a hard time adjusting especially with her stubbornness, but she finds that family is above all else and she begins to accept new culture and perspectives for her family.
