I did my first 5K race!

In elementary and high school, I lived more of a sedentary lifestyle as my hobbies consisted of drawing, reading mangas (japanese comics), playing music, and playing RPG videogames. Most of the time I'm sitting in front of a computer, and that only changed in my first year of college when I got introduced to dancing.

In NYC, I started taking dance classes because it has always been a dream for me to learn more about hip-hop. In my city in California, I wasn't really able to get around and I didn't know where hiphop classes were. Also add to the fact that my mom was strict about where I go and what time I need to go home.

So in college I had more freedom to try out new things that's not done in front of a computer. This is when I became more aware of my physical health, and every now and then I'd count my calories (I was underweight) and try going to the gym where I had no idea what to do. Along the way I tried out taking spinning classes and powerlifting.

Earlier this year, I visited my family in Las Vegas. My uncle, who's a doctor, has an athletic facility and he invited me over to take a gait analysis test. It was just such a cool experience, everyone was so nice and I even got running shoes for free. Since then, my uncle gave me a running coach who will assess my progress using a Garmin watch with a heart rate monitor. Since I'm in NY and my coach is in Las Vegas, we primarily kept in touch with messaging. I sent over my data from my watch to him and he would give me my training plan and schedule.

My first 5K trial run I did a sub-50 min...and I had to really mentally psych myself into finishing it. In 1 month, I did 32 mins in the 5K run. Not bad! Here's a screenshot of the shoutout I got on facebook from the athletic facility.

This is just the beginning, I think I'm ready for more!
